The idea of good practice in fundraising is to harmonize the understandings and expectations of both donors and donors about how donations are collected, used and reported, in order to contribute to the establishment of smart charity in Estonia. Good practice is a tool that sets out the conditions and principles, the fulfillment of which ensures that the principles of fundraising are clear and understandable to all parties and that help reaches those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A donation is a voluntary monetary or other gift that does not involve obligations, a return favor, or the provision of a service. Donations can be collected to be passed on to someone in need or to support the donor's own activities. A donation can be a one-time or regular donation, and there are several different ways to collect donations (collection boxes, donation hotlines, bank transfers, selling products and services with a corresponding mark-up, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Making a donation is an opportunity for every person to contribute to solving an individual or societal problem or to alleviate its consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By confirming that it operates in accordance with good fundraising practices, the fundraiser undertakes to adhere to the following principles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Information about the donor is easy to find. <\/strong>This means that the website of the donation collector contains the organization's goals, annual reports and overviews of the use of donations to date, the statutes, the names of the management body and employees, and the organization's contact information. Donors are also informed about the taxes and benefits associated with donating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When collecting donations, it is clearly stated what the donation will be used for and what results are expected to be achieved by using the donation.<\/strong>. If donations are collected to be passed on to someone in need, the donor has the right to know in advance how much of the donation will be used to cover the costs associated with collecting and mediating the donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There is no pressure to donate.<\/strong>. The donation collector respects the donor's right to decide for themselves whether and how much they donate, and whether they want their name as a donor to be made public or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When collecting donations to support someone else, the right to privacy of the person in need is respected.<\/strong> Information about them will not be published without their consent. Special attention must be paid to protecting the rights of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The money collected as donations will be used prudently, purposefully<\/strong> and<\/strong> appropriately.<\/strong> If a donation that has already been collected cannot be used, the donor will be informed and offered the opportunity to return the donation or an agreement will be made on the future use of the donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The donor will fulfill the promises made to the donor<\/strong> regarding the use of the donation and the provision of information about it.
