- NGO Sa Suudad is applying to join the good practice of donations. Joining is planned for the beginning of 2025.
The idea of a good practice in collecting donations is to harmonize the understandings and expectations of both those who collect donations and those who make them, how donations are collected, used and reported - in this way to contribute to the establishment of smart charity in Estonia. A good practice is a tool that states the conditions and principles, the fulfillment of which ensures that the principles of collecting donations are clear and understandable to all parties, and that the aid reaches those in need.
A donation is a voluntary financial or other gift that is not accompanied by obligations, consideration or service. Donations can be collected to pass on to someone in need or to support the activities of the donor. The donation can be one-time or regular, and there are many different ways to collect donations (collection boxes, donation phones, bank transfers, sale of products and services with a corresponding markup, etc.).
Making a donation is every person's opportunity to contribute to solving an individual or social problem or mitigating its consequences.
Confirming that it acts in accordance with good fundraising practices, the fundraiser undertakes to adhere to the following principles:
Information about the donation collector is easy to find. This means that the goals of the organization, annual reports and overviews of the use of donations to date, the statutes, the names of the governing body and employees, and the organization's contact information are published on the website of the donation collector. Donors are also informed about the taxes and benefits associated with the donation.
When collecting donations, it is clearly stated what the donation is used for and what results are to be achieved by using the donation. If donations are collected to be passed on to a person in need, the person making the donation has the right to know in advance how much of the donation will be used to cover the costs associated with collecting and mediating the donation.
There is no pressure to donate. The fundraiser respects the donor's right to decide whether and how much to donate, and whether or not they want their name to be made public as a donor.
When collecting donations to support someone else, the person in need's right to privacy is respected. Information about him will not be published without the consent of the person in need of help. Special attention must be paid to protecting children's rights.
The money collected as donations is used prudently, purposefully and expediently. If it is not possible to use the donation that has already been collected, the collector of the donation informs the donor about this and offers the opportunity to return the donation or agree on the future use of the donation.
